THE STAGS

These famous recumbent zinc stags near the north gate of Tower Grove Park were originally created by German sculptor Daniel Christian Rauch. They were acquired by Mr. Henry Shaw in the late nineteenth century for the permanent adornment of the park, but a century later, the stags were severely damaged by falling tree branches during a thunderstorm.
